Doctors At ‘Mercy Health’ Are Helping Addicted Babies By Cuddling Them
You may love cuddling with babies, but did you ever think it could save ones life? This is what volunteers at Mercy Health – Anderson Hospital are doing.
Babies who’s parents are addicted to heroin are born with the same awful addiction. This means that they are at a big disadvantage coming into this world, having withdrawal symptoms that make them inconsolable. This is where cuddling comes in!
Volunteers spend time holding and caressing addicted babies throughout the day and night. For many, this is the only time they actually get sleep.
They don’t have the nervous systems yet to settle themselves,” added volunteer Donna Mullins. “And sometimes the only time they sleep is when they are in someone’s arms and you can rock them.” said volunteer Ted Rohling.
Although it’s incredibly sad that these babies are born with such an awful addiction, it’s incredible how simple of a thing can make such a difference. The power of love is truly amazing
