All this dad has is an ordinary backyard kiddie pool and a body board. To most people, that’s a lazy Sunday afternoon. But to this dad it’s and opportunity to teach and have a blast with basic physics.
He’s able to use his pool and a displace the water with body board, demonstrating a principle called “constructive wave interference.”
If a crest of a wave meets a crest of another wave of the same frequency at the same point, then the magnitude of the displacement is the sum of the individual magnitudes—this is constructive interference.”
To say that in a bit simpler terms, when two waves of the same size come together, the resulting wave is double the size. Essentially, this means giant wave time! The kid looks like he’s having a blast launching off of it!
