Volvo Just Turned Passing Cars Into Generators
This new ad from Volvo is pretty great. Called “Highway Robbery”, Volvo did pretty much exactly that to the people of California and it’s competitors. By creating a large mat containing tubes of water and laying it across the road, passing cars would compress and eject the water into a generator connected to and charging their new XC90 T8. Essentially they were stealing the excess energy that cars make by just being heavy and moving. They even had a large TV screen that displayed messages such as “Thanks for the extra miles, Jeep,” and “Thank you, black Audi” to drivers by.
It’s funny and efficient, but obviously not a practical way to charge a car. Really it’s just a great ad campaign that “stole” from it’s competitors and got a ton of people on a highway to look at a nice new Volkswagen.
