Deep Learning Autonomous Cars Approved To Be Tested On California Roads

by onApril 24, 2016

Self driving car company ‘drive.ai’ is about to hit the roads of California according to The Wall Street Journal. A Silicon Valley startup that received $12 million in funding last year, they have officially been granted a license to test autonomous vehicles on California roads. One of only 13 companies to receive this permission.

DriveAI is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the research and development of autonomous vehicles. We’re a team of motivated engineers and students that are looking to bring the community together to understand and build autonomous vehicles. – Drive.ai

Drive.ai reportedly stated that they are working on bringing the aspect of “deep learning” to their autonomous car tech. Rather than programming a car so that it knows exactly what to do at all times (which is impossible), Drive.ai aims to give it’s driving AI the ability to learn on its own. The more time it spends on the road the better it’ll get at responding to the unique scenarios of automobile operation.

Not much has been said about Drive.ai’s technology at this point. Their website features a hiring button and that’s about it. The fact that they’ve been granted a license to hit the road is proof enough that it has stable self-driving tech ready to put on a vehicle…or that the government doesn’t know what it’s doing when it come to testing A.I.
