This New Hover Board Is Real…And It Just Set The World Record For Longest Flight

by onMay 1, 2016

French jet ski champion and inventor of the Flyboard Air, Franky Zapata, has just set a new Guinness World Record. What for you may ask? The farthest hover board flight, which is pretty ground breaking might we add. Just this Saturday morning off the coast of the south of France, Zapata boarded his Flyboard Air and road over 7,000 feet (7,388 to be exact)! The previous record of 905 feet that was set last year got completely smashed.

A group of almost 200 witnessed the world record attempt by Zapata. Taking off from a platform and climbing to around 50 feet Zapata was followed by his team in boats and on jet skis. After the flight Zapata thanked his team for their help developing and supporting him to achieve such an incredible board, which they had been working towards for five years.

Zapata, 37, gained wide attention online earlier this month after videos of himself riding the Flyboard Air went viral. Some doubted whether the footage was real or merely a marketing gimmick. His company, Zapata Racing, has developed a wide range of water-propelled devices, including the original Flyboard, which connects to a personal watercraft turbine with a long hose. The Flyboard Air, by contrast, uses an “Independent Propulsion Unit” to fly hose-free for up to ten minutes, according to Zapata Racing. The company says the device can reach a maximum height of 10,000 feet, with a maximum speed of 150 kilometers per hour (93 miles per hour).
