A new bed developed by ‘Dahir Instant’ may be the future of bed construction for communities developed in areas prone to heavy earthquakes.
With a number of different designs to fit into many different living spaces, the Anti-Earthquake beds are essentially a chamber built around the bed that is completely hidden from sight during normal use.
In the event of an earthquake, sensors in the bed will detect the early tremors and immediately drop the bed down into the steel chamber, covering the the top as well. With a compartment below the bed available for storage of fresh water, food and other supplies they will be able to keep a person safe for a good amount of time.
While it would be absolutely horrifying to be woken up by being instantly dropped into a dark chamber while the building around you shakes and collapses…it’s better than not waking up as a building collapses on you in your normal bed.
My only concern would be, what if you sleep and your arm or leg is hanging off the bed and it drops you in the chamber with your leg hooked on the side and then slams it’s heavy lid down…..not fun. Maybe they have sensors to detect that the person is in a proper position before closing, but that still means there is the chance that you’ll be sleeping in a position that stops a complete close.
